Replay Health is a trusted provider of controlled dose PRP – which means no more red blood cells or excess plasma.
This advanced dosing system means seamless and measurable platelet delivery in theatres or in clinic – at the time doctors need it most.
We have a dedicated patient PRP clinic in our Pyrmont and Bankstown rooms offering PRP for patients seeking PRP injections with experienced Orthopaedic specialist Dr Dominik Schaffner and Occupational Specialist MSK Physician Dr Ijaz Khan.
We provide PRP for Stubborn Chronic conditions such as
- Sports Injuries like
(Shoulder Impingement, partial rotator cuff tear, Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, Achilles Tendonitis, Patellar tendonitis, Improved Fracture healing) - Skin conditions (Psoriasis)
- Hair loss (thinning hair)
What is PRP?
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous orthobiologic that harnesses the body’s natural healing properties to aid in tissue repair and regeneration.
- PRP contains a higher concentration of platelets, your body’s mechanism to manage inflammation and contains growth factors that promote healing.
- PRP involves drawing a small sample of the patient’s blood, which is then centrifuged to separate the platelets from other blood components.
- PRP is based on the natural healing process of the human body.
- PRP is harvested from your own blood and injections are minimally invasive. Therefore, there is no risk of allergic reactions.
- PRP is frequently used to accelerate healing from orthopaedic injuries or a work injury.
- PRP is also used for psoriasis and hair regrowth as well as for skin rejuvenation procedures to help skin appear younger and plumped via production of collagen and elastin.
- PRP has short operation time and short downtime. PRP takes 30-45 mins, and you can easily return to your daily life after receiving PRP injections.
What happens during a PRP session?
- We take your blood with a very fine needle and centrifuge the blood to extract the useful part (platelet rich plasma), that will be injected into your body (orthopaedic, psoriasis) or scalp (for hair loss).
- You may experience minor discomfort during the treatment and within 24 hours.
- Try not to touch or shower the area within 24 hours.
- After 24 hours you can return to your normal routine.
What are the side effects of PRP?
This procedure is generally very well tolerated and any of the following side effects are generally rare and can usually be easily managed. Side effects include
- Injury to the blood vessels and nerves
- Infection
- Scar tissue
- Rarely reaction to topical anaesthetic
- Risks or side effects are also greater for heavy smokers, people who have a history or drug or alcohol use or people who are on blood thinning medications. In these cohorts the procedure is not recommended. Other patients who
- may not be suitable include patients with current cancer, chronic liver disease, metabolic disorders, platelet dysfunction syndromes, some chronic skin diseases, chronic liver disease, a low platelet count and thyroid disease.
What is YCell-Tube PRP?
- Not all PRP is the same.
- At Replay Health we use and supply concentrated PRP – using a state-of-the-art Ycell-PRP delivery system which provides measurable PRP in surgery in our rooms at Pyrmont.
- The unique Y-shaped system allows controlled and concentrated Platelet doses.
- Ordinary PRP preparation often means that the “dose” of PRP that is injected often contains excessive plasma and red blood cells and is much less concentrated.
- This means there is less debris and more and measurable levels of the prized “buffy coat” – in other words more of the patient’s own platelets.
- So now doctors and patients can know they are getting a “clean” dose of PRP, with precision platelet delivery helping to increase the effectiveness of the procedure.
- Minimal training is required due to the automated delivery system.
- PRP using this system can be obtained with just 15 ml of blood.
- Y-PRP has obtained many scientific accreditations to ensure the gold standard of medical quality. These include
- ISO 13485 (Quality Management)
- TGA approved
- FDA approved
- GMP Certification (Good Manufacturing Practice)
- CE (Traded freely in any part of the European Economic Area)
So what is the buffy coat anyway?
- In a test tube that contains whole blood, a thin layer of buffy coat is formed between the plasma and the hematocrit, and it is this that is so platelet rich.
- Buffy coat accounts for about less than 1% of the total blood volume taken in a tube, so if most of the dose is red blood cells and NOT platelets results can be less effective.
- Many studies show that the effectiveness of PRP varies depending on the specific condition, individual response and the delivery system of PRP.
- The American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (ASSM) recently highlighted the absence of a standardized PRP protocol, and also says “it is important to recognise the negative impact of red blood cells (RBCs) on tissue healing with improper PRP preparation.
“Damaged RBCs lead to oxidative stress and ultimately increase cell apoptosis and cartilage regeneration.
“Therefore eliminating RBC content from the PRP formulation is essential prior to treatment,” the report found.
This is where Y-tube delivery – which effectively separates red blood cells – has a compelling point of difference for surgical applications worldwide.
What are the market trends for PRP in 2025?
According to Grandview Research the PRP market is expected to enjoy monumental growth by 2030.
In 2022 the global PRP market size was USD 627.0 million, and expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.1% from 2023 to 2030.
The use of PRP in hospital procedures is also driving the trend.
The surge has been driven by increasing demand from patients in the field of sports injury and an upsurge in cosmetic surgery.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says the use of the biological agent has increased by 25% in just four years from 2015 – 2018.
Whilst PRP has been used in orthopaedics and cosmetic surgery for more than a decade, a groundswell of emerging medical science is showing the PRP has efficacy for a range of other health conditions including
- Hair loss
- COVID-19 smell loss
- Urinary incontinence
- Lichens sclerosus
- Lung disease
